Statement of Need

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and affects over 21 million people in the United States.  This program will take a closer look at the genetics behind diabetes and will discuss common signs/symptoms and treatment options.  Differences in outcomes among patients are also discussed, with an emphasis on strategies to overcome challenges to treatment.
 

Target Audience

This educational addresses the needs of physicians and other healthcare personnel (nurses, RNs, PAs, etc.) involved in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes.

The goal of this activity is to provide medical news to primary care clinicians and other healthcare professionals in order to enhance patient care.
 

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Describe the current, and presumably latest, healthcare guidelines and diagnostic/treatment mandates for presentations of type 2 diabetes
  2. Summarize the overall strategies for dealing with patients who present with type 2 diabetes
  3. Discuss other factors, in addition to genetics, which play a large part in the development of type 2 diabetes
